week 13

My biggest issue with my writing is going off subject. I often have many issues with taking to long to get to the point in a story but when answering questions I am very American or British way of writing, straight to the point.
I think many other people have an easy time writing a long drawn out explanation but I am not that way. As for class essays and papers I do have  problem. Many times I am straight to the point and have difficulties dragging the papers out.
I am working on going more into depth in my papers but it is a struggle.

  1. Sheila, I like your self comparison to "British", I think it could be strength to use only the words you need to get your point across. Often I feel the need to plug "fancy" words to explain my point when actually it adds a different meaning to the idea I was trying to explain. I guess it is just finding that balance and knowing when and what style is needed to write. Keep up the good work.

  2. I also have a difficult time writing papers for class as it does not come naturally to me. Sometimes I feel like every word is a struggle. One of my former instructors gave us an assignment once to write an owners manual on how to do something, like mow the lawn. It really opened my eyes on how much detail you need to really tell someone from beginning to end how to mow the lawn. Before that assignment I would just say get the mower, pull the cord and have at it. After that assignment I was able to see how the important all of those details are such put gas in mower, make sure you remove obstacals from lawn...ect. If you ever want practice that was a great exercise.
